This article is again the experience of a friend of mine who started her training at Mysore Infy campus in July 2011.
Joining Infy will be on a Monday but you need to arrive exactly a day prior (sunday morning) with all your luggage. Room allotment, document submission, etc will take place that day. So I reached Mysore from my home town Hyderabad by train at 8 am. We were told the allotment will be in alphabetical order and since my name starts with 'S', I was safe and could reach the campus well in time. Those whose names started with
'A' came in the previous night, stayed at a hotel in the city and reached the campus by 8 am.Mysore Infy training campus is located after Vijayanagar on the outskirts of the city. The best way to get there is by hiring an auto-rickshaw from the bus stand which can cost you anywhere between Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 (depending on the driver's mood and the time of the day). The camps is huge and breathtakingly beautiful. There's a GEC building, dorms (which are luxurious) and so many food courts..its like entering heaven. Since all buildings are far away, you need to commute with bicycles. No no you don't have to buy them - there are many in the campus itself. You pick a random (Ladybird cycle with basket haha) and ride it till building X, park it in the parking lot of the building and forget it. Somebody else can pick it up. Ditto with umbrellas..really nice system.
Anyway, guys are given single rooms and two girls are made to share a room..don't know why but it is that way. I thought I would have liked a single room too but then my room mate turned out to be wonderful! I was among the lucky few though. They charge you about 1.2 k (girls) and 2k INR (guys) per month for these rooms deducted from your salary but that's really a small amount
because it is comparable to 4 star accommodation - HUGE air conditioned room with coffee maker, attached bath, nice bed..you'll feel like a queen and you need to after all that exhausting training.Training is difficult, at least I found it to be because I'm from telecommunication background. They teach you 4 years worth BE CS stuff in three months with 2-3 days per module. You are not given any books, everything is on the systems in the GEC and you need to go there itself and study. No pen drives or CDs allowed so the only way you can access this material outside is to make notes on a book. Sucks, yeah but you'll have plenty of company when you study. Training is a LOT of fun.
There are tests every monday so unless it is an easy module, forget home visits (unless you stay nearby), weekend trips, etc. Oh and even if you are a Mysore resident, you need to stay in the campus itself, mainly to study in GEC. There's a laundry room with washing machines and iron boxes which you can use free of cost. Iron box cannot be kept in your room. And ladies, there's a beauty parlour on campus which is very good and cheap. There's also a theatre which is free and shows the latest movies but you need to wait for an hour in a queue to get in. The campus and facilities are truly world class.
These two months have been great and now I am preparing for the compre exam after which postings will be offered. The city you are posted in depends upon where you passed your class 10 (that is considered as your home town) and you will be posted there or nearest location.
